"For Ukraine - its heads you win, tails I loose anyway you see it."

This is more or less true. Ukraine doesn't have a strong hand to play. Their neighbor is one of the three great powers in the world and they need, or needed to be more careful.

People often mix questions of morality and right into international relations, and it is a mistake. These things matter, but when it comes to national security all that stuff goes out the window.

Anyone with any common sense in Ukraine and in America, which included people like Obama and our current CIA chief Burns warned that the entrance of NATO into Ukraine in the form of training troops and equipping the Ukrainian army was going to alarm the Russians might make then invade Ukraine. It was clear that this could happen.

It's not like this war was terribly surprising. The Russians warned over and over they would do it. They massed their army on the border, delivered their demands and were ignored.

Sometimes you have to settle for doing the smart thing instead of what you want. The smart thing was to renounce NATO, recognize that Crimea was Russian, and let the Donbas go. These were not onerous terms and they could have been agreed to easily enough. But Ukraine and their American "allies" did what they wanted rather than what was smart and wise, and now Ukraine is being destroyed for the mistake.

I say allies in quotes because true friends would not lead their ally into this situation. Much of America's leadership despises Russia for a variety of irrational reasons, but the main reason is that Russia resists them. They couldn't possibly care less if Ukraine gets wrecked so long as it advances their goal of weakening Russia.
