I find the Penrose theory appealing, though I'm certainly not equipped to judge!

One thing about the standard computational theory of conciousness is that it's kind of like a magic spell. If this, this this and that are calculated in the correct sequence, you get conciousness. Possibly conciousness could be modelled in software by performing the same calculations.

The Penrose theory doesn't go down that path, which makes it interesting.
