Stockholm syndrom. You have begun to love your abusers. It doesn't matter how often they lie to you, you just forgive them. "Oh, they honestly believed there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq! It was an understandable mistake."
That particular lie was NOT a mistake. It was a deliberate and key lie used to start an unnecessary war in Iraq and led to the the deaths of at least a quarter million Iraqis. Not that anybody in America gives a crap about their deaths.
Media lies are not mistakes, and they are understandable like we know a thief will steal unguarded valuables. I believed the lies in the Iraq war and only slowly did I realize how profoundly I'd been manipulated. How profoundly everyone had been manipulated. I'll not be taken in again.
One of the organizations, Bellingcat, actually makes lies up, the rest just uncritically accept lies manufactured by the likes of Bellingcat or inserted into the AP and Reuters newsfeed. The American public and the people of the West are being manipulated into aiding Ukraine, hating Russia, accepting the burden of crushing sanctions on our own economies, and quite possibly entering the war as active belligerants.
If you just step back and ask yourself, "why do I feel so strongly about this war," you'll realize you have no particular reason to. It's not your war. Both sides have legitimate reasons to fight. Russia is not uiniquely evil--America has done far worse to places like Libya and Iraq. America even bombed civilians in Belgrade for 75 days straight one time. Sure, those were all military targets...
Since Ukraine cannot win this war, eventually Russia will overcome the defenses and force Ukraine to the table. After many months of telling people that Ukraine was winning this will come as a shock to the Western public, so once even the most rabid media war cheerleaders begin to see that all is lost they'll just stop talking about it. They'll move the story back to page eight and focus on the evils of China or something. You'll get the news, but it will be no big deal. There will be another currently thing and the public will be fascinated by it. They'll forget they were lied to and move on to believing whatever is dangled in front of them next.
I don't expect you to appreciate this message. I expect you to resent it a lot, and to reject it. But maybe I'll have placed a seed of doubt in your mind. Once you begin to see the lies, you never stop seeing them again.
