Thanks for that explanation. I've read about more serious efforts to protect the grid from these storms, so maybe we'll be in better shape the next time one comes calling.

But it seems that the early warning we'd get from the satellites is the most valuable. I'm guessing we can simply shut down the grid if we see a really big one coming.

The real important question is whether unpowered, but unshielded electronics could survive storm. If the storm cooks all the computers and phones we're toast, especially after the geniuses in government get us all switched over to digital currency.
