The really important thing is that even if we talk ourselves into the most stringent carbon laws imaginable and enforce them, the BRICS countries and the rest of the developing world would not cooperate.

They cannot be persuaded to cooperate because it would mean setting back their economies too far. It would mean they would have to accept poverty while the rich countries have already achieved development. And there would be no way forward for them.

So you can try and persuade the people in those countries not to develop their economies, but they will not listen. And there are a lot more of them than there are of you. And that's it. You simply cannot win this war.

But don't despair! Climate has warmed about 1 degree C since the mid 19th century at a fairly steady rate. Fears of catastrophic warming are probably overblown. The rate is at a manageable level and we will adapt as it happens.

And the author's thesis--that nobody actually cares--is both correct and really good news. There are a lot of really economically destructive ideas floating around right now and most people will secretly resist or ignore them while trying to appear virtuous. This means we aren't going to get stuck with a lot of terrible proposals that will wreck our economy.

About the only thing we'll have to suffer is sanctimonious serminizing and a few unhinged true believers ranting on the internet. Easily handled. Just tell them the world is going to broil, that it's awful, that nobody is doing anything about it, and that they are totally right and they'll leave you alone, which is exactly what the poor developing nations are doing with the rich developed ones.
